Winner of the Rose Augustine Grand Prize in the 2024 Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition, Leonela Alejandro is a classical guitarist from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. She has garnered attention as a soloist, captivating audiences with her powerful and energetic performance style. She has been invited to perform in numerous venues in the United States and Europe, including the Latino Arts Guitar Festival, Florida Guitar Festival, Louisville Guitar Society, and José Tomás Villa de Petrer Guitar Festival.

St. Louis Classical Guitar welcomes back classical guitarist and composer David Leisner for a solo concert on Saturday, October 18th, at 7:30pm at Salem United Methodist Church. This concert is part of the Guitar Masters Series.
David Leisner is an extraordinarily versatile musician with a multi-faceted career as an electrifying performing artist, a distinguished composer, and a master teacher. David Leisner’s career began auspiciously with top prizes in both the 1975 Toronto and 1981 Geneva International Guitar Competitions.
Mr. Leisner is also a highly respected composer noted for the emotional and dramatic power of his music. Fanfare magazine described it as “rich in invention and melody, emotionally direct, and beautiful”. Recent commissioners include Pepe Romero for a guitar concerto, Cavatina Duo, baritone Wolfgang Holzmair, Arc Duo, and more.

Join St. Louis Classical Guitar for a unique concert with highly-esteemed classical guitarist William Kanengiser of the LA Guitar Quartet, as he embarks on a program of music from his new album “British Invasion” accompanied by the Alexander String Quartet, on Saturday, November 15th, 2025 at Salem United Methodist Church.
The Alexander String Quartet and guitarist William Kanengiser form a dynamic collaboration that explores the music of Sting, Led Zeppelin, John Dowland, and The Beatles by way of contemporary composers Ian Krouse, Dušan Bogdanović, and Leo Brouwer. In this project, William Kanengiser and the Alexander String Quartet pay tribute to a group of English musicians who conquered the musical world with their revolutionary explorations. From the Elizabethan lutenist John Dowland to the pop/rock icons Sting, The Beatles and Led Zeppelin, these artists made a lasting impact far from the shores of their small island.
William Kanengiser has forged a career that expands the possibilities of the classical guitar. A prize-winner in major competitions (1987 Concert Artists Guild International Competition, Toronto Guitar ’81) he has toured throughout North America, Asia, and Europe with his innovative programs and expressive musicianship. He recorded four CD’s for the GSP label, playing music as diverse as Caribbean, Eastern European, and jazz. A member of the guitar faculty at the USC Thornton School of Music since 1983, he has given master classes around the world.

Award-winning classical guitarist W. Mark Akin is a Saint Louis-based musician who has engaged audiences across the country with his dynamic on-stage presence and musicality. He has won prizes in numerous competitions including the Artist Presentation Society competition. He teaches at Washington University, is a Teaching Artist with St. Louis Classical guitar, and hosts the radio program “Inside Classical Guitar” on Classic 107.3.
The University City Orchestra (UCSO) celebrates its 64th season in 2024. This vibrant group of musicians has been given the nickname “World’s Most Adventurous Community Orchestra.” The 50 member UCSO, led by conductor and music director Dr. Leon Burke III, is known for player lesser known pieces by well-known composers and great music by lesser known composers.

From the ethnic music of his native Balkans to extreme avant-garde and microtonal music, his roles as soloist, collaborator, and Grammy-nominated recording artist are fueled by curiosity, imagination, and boundless energy.
Curtis Stewart - Praised for “combining omnivory and brilliance” (The New York Times), four-time GRAMMY Award-nominated violinist and composer Curtis Stewart translates stories of American self determination to the concert stage. Tearing down the facade of “classical violinist,” Stewart is in constant pursuit of his musical authenticity, treating art as a battery for realizing citizenship. As a solo violinist, composer, Artistic Director of the American Composers Orchestra, professor at The Juilliard School, and member of award-winning ensembles PUBLIQuartet and The Mighty Third Rail, he realizes a vision to find personal and powerful connections between styles, cultures and musics.

Guitarist, singer, and songwriter Walter Parks will perform some of his music and will discuss what sparked his love for the guitar.
