Jack Hancher

St. Louis Classical Guitar’s season opener with UK guitarist, a “youthful intensity tempered by sophisticated musical intelligence” - Gramophone Magazine.

Join us for our Guitar Masters Series 2026-27 season opener UK classical guitarist Jack Hancher, on the release of his debut album of music by English composers The Memory Garden, on Saturday, September 19, at 7:30pm at the Ethical Society. Jack will be making his St. Louis debut, making up for his canceled performance during our 2024-25 season due to visa issues.

Described by Gendai Guitar Magazine as a “poet and a painter, colouring sounds out of the guitar as if his imagination and the guitar were one”, Jack Hancher is a rising star of the classical guitar. In 2022, he won the prestigious Gold Medal of the Royal Overseas League Competition at London's Wigmore Hall, becoming just the third guitarist to win the award. This was preceded in 2021 by a tour of several European Guitar Festivals as a EuroStrings Artist.

In 2024, Jack released his debut album “The Memory Garden” on the Deux-Elles label to critical acclaim. It was described by BBC Record Review as “clean, clear, well focused and compelling playing” and was selected by MusicWeb International amongst their “Best Recordings of 2024”. The album consists of music by English composers and features two new commissions by Dani Howard and Laura Snowden.

Raphaël Feuillâtre

Hailed as the new face of classical guitar worldwide, Raphaël Feuillâtre returns to St. Louis to share his dazzling virtuosity and rich repertoire.

Join St. Louis Classical Guitar as we welcome back the phenomenal French classical guitarist Raphaël Feuillâtre, the first guitarist signed to prestigious classical music record label Deutsche Grammophon in many years, on Tuesday November 10, at 7:30pm at the Ethical Society.

Winner of the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America competition in 2018 (USA) and ADAMI’s “Classical Revelation 2021”, Raphaël Feuillâtre was chosen as an exclusive artist by the label Deutsche Grammophon in 2022. He is, to date, one of the very few guitarists to have signed with this legendary label. This fruitful collaboration gave birth to his debut album “Visages Baroques” in 2023, which displays different facets of the Baroque aesthetic. His second album, Spanish Serenades, features masterpieces from the Spanish repertoire, including works by Albéniz, Granados, Llobet, Rodrigo, and Tárrega.

Following his acclaimed debut at New York's Carnegie Hall in 2023, he has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals - including Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, the “Folle Journée” in Nantes, the Edinburgh International Festival and the Beethoven Haus in Bonn.

Born in Djibouti in 1996, Raphaël was introduced to the guitar by his first teacher, Hacène Addadi, before joining Michel Grizard's class at the Conservatoire de Nantes in 2012. Three years later, he entered the Conservatoire National de Musique et de Danse de Paris in the classes of Roland Dyens and Tristan Manoukian.
